Lillith padded along the neighborhood streets. In the distance her keen ears picked up the distant sounds of dogs barking. She paid them no mind, continuing on to her destination. "It's just up ahead."
She motioned to a lone brick house, a tattered old thing that stuck out like a sour thumb when compared to the others. The human there was kind so aesthetics were disregarded. She hopped herself up onto the porch and meowed as loudly as she could next to the screen door. A tiny cat could be seen from the upstairs window, and soon footsteps were heard vibrating through the house.
The woman appeared, opening the screen door to give Lillith a scratch by her ears. "Oh I'm so glad you're back! You poor kitty, you must be hungry." Her shrill voice hurt Lillith's ears at times, but she could endure it if it meant food. The middle-aged lady left, returning a few moments later with a bowl of milk and one of some salmon flavored cat food. She was kind enough to give Lillith her privacy after exploiting a few more touches for her.
Sometimes Lillith thought about leaving the Roshen colony to become a house cat. It was much safer after all but.. She wasn't sure how the adjustment would be for her.
"C'mon the coast is clear, you can come up and eat now." She didn't wait for Two-Face to join her before she started to eat, taking a few bites of the cat food.

Two-Face stalked out quietly from the hydrangea bushes near the porch. The interaction between Lilith and the human had gone much quicker than he originally thought. Clearly, Lilith had been here before, because humans usually had to decide they liked you before they fed you. He sat behind Lilith a step down from her, watching her eat. The human certainly had been generous with her offering; nevertheless, Two-Face felt a little awkward about taking food out of a female's mouth. He'd just wait for her to have her fill. He was sure she was probably more hungry than he was anyway, considering she'd been in the alleyway looking for food. Eyeing the house carefully, he looked back to Lilith. How often do you come here? he asked, saving his next question for later.

Lillith paused her eating, licking her muzzle clean of any food. She pondered Two-Face's question for a moment before finally answering the tom. "Maybe once or twice a week? I usually just come around when I can't find food in the city or near the cathedral. Sometimes I end up here when I decide to wander. She takes good care of me, always makes sure I don't leave without a full stomach."
She moved aside to let Two-Face come in and take his share. She didn't intend to hog all the food, she did invite him to eat with her anyways, not watch her eat. "I'm sure she'd love you. She likes me well enough." "Here, go ahead and eat. I'm done for now."

I am not so sure. Humans do not seem to find me as adorable as they find other cats. he said simply. As Lilith backed away and allowed him his share, he eye'd it for a moment or two. He wondered how Lilith would take to watching a cat with two mouths eat; it might be a little disturbing for her.. Or even gross.
He could eat with both mouths at once, but it increased the risk of him choking, because he only had one throat. So, just like with speaking, he just ate with one mouth or the other. Nevertheless, the idea that he could eat with one mouth and spit up what he'd just eaten with the other tended to make some cats a little nauseous.
Looking up, Two-Face's mind was returned to his next question. Who was that cat in the window? he asked.

"This lady is crazy about cats. Trust me, she'll love you. Maybe even a little too much for your liking."
Lillith watched Two-Face eat in awe. Once she remembered she was staring did she look away. She turned her head to watch the road. It was quiet, late in the evening so not many people were out and about. There was still the faint sound of a dog, going crazy from the smell of cats. The neighborhood they were in was nice enough. Many people had pets, mostly cats but there was an occasional human with a dog or two. She never found them to be vicious, they were just very curious and it could get annoying at times.
"I'm not sure. We've never spoken to eachother. They seem to be a new cat she's gotten, probably a rescue. Curious to find out?' The cat in question was a small black cat that Lillith has only seen a handful of times. The lady often got new cats, she was apparently a rescuer and fostered them for periods of time until they found new homes. Some cats couldn't be placed so she simply kept them. Most of them were outside cats, Lillith tried not to pay them any mind. "Is it good?"

Two-Face had an ear toward Lilith as he ate, listening to her brief description of the woman and the cats she lived with. After having finished his half of the meal, he sat straight again and licked his lips. The food was pretty good, but if the woman was around cats so much, that probably made her an expert on them.. So he wasn't surprised she'd given out such a good flavor of food. He nodded at Lilith to answer her second question, then looked at the house as he contemplated her first. "No. I do not have any interest in house cats. If their owners are good to them, then they live pleasant enough lives, and there is no need for me to interfere with that. he said simply.

Lillith grinned before reaching to take a sip of the milk. It was fairly warm against her tongue, filling pleasant as it filled up her stomach. She listened to Two-Face speak, once again thinking about what how much life would be differently if she wasn't... the way she was.
"Have you ever thought about it? Like, what it would be like if you were on the other side of the window..I find myself thinking quite a lot about it. Being a housecat it's.. a lot better than living out on the streets. At times I regret doing the things I have done, thinking maybe I could experience this kinda life.." She paused, taking another sip of the milk. "The Roshen colony has it's pros and cons I guess, but, getting a taste of this pampered house cat life seems like it'd be interesting. I wouldn't have to kill anyone to survive or keep my place, I'd get nice meals daily, even affection." She sighed before getting up. "That was super embarassing, I'm sorry. Don't tell anyone about that please, I like living here, as a Roshen cat, but at times I just... think."

Two-Face watched Lilith as she drank the milk and dreamed aloud about the glamours of being a house cat. He agreed that the thought did seem appealing: To be loved, cared for, and protected.. But in all honesty, he had never considered that life for himself. Humans had always been a bad thing in his mind. They were worse about his mutation than most cats were.
I won't tell anyone. he said softly, glancing at the window and pondering more on Lillith's question. It's more foolish to have a good life and want a bad one, than to have a bad life and want a good one.
Two-Face turned once again to focus his attention on Lillith. Assuming the human is good, I would not object. But humans tend to be willful and want you to do things their way. I'm not fond of the idea of someone calling me a their pet, and trying to tell me what to do.

Lillith grinned at the tom. "You don't like to be tied down or take orders. I can respect that." She nodded her head, standing up and padding to the edge of the porch. "We should head to the Cathedral yes? It's getting dark. "
Lillith didn't wait for an answer, she hopped off the porch, beginning her descent down the sidewalk to the street. If she walked fairly quickly, she could make it back to the Roshen colony territory before dark. She didn't want to stay out any longer than she'd have to. It would be getting cold soon and she'd rather be inside than out during that time.

Two-Face followed Lillith down the steps, but did not proceed after her further than that. I will return to the Cathedral later. I have hunting to do. he said simply, turning to the side and heading off across the yard in the opposite direction. He did not bring up the fact that this hunt was not to provide food for himself, but rather for a young kit in his charge. He figured that would reveal itself eventually, since Lillith was a member of the Roshen clan, just like he was. True to Lillith's words, it was getting dark. A dangerous time, and yet, one perfect for hunting. There was always more to be found at night.

"Do you need any help?" She wasn't sure if she was becoming a little clingy to the tom. She gave herself the excuse that it was better to hunt with two than one, and that being alone at night was dangerous especially for a cat. Bleh.
She was becoming soft. But she enjoyed the time that the two had spent together despite it being so short. Two-face had proven himself to be a nice person to talk to. She hoped to get to talk to him again soon, perhaps have a little adventure with the tom much like today. But then it struck her. Two-Face was going hunting when he'd already eaten. There was still chunks of food left in the bowl from what she could see so it was surprising, and a little mysterious. "Who are you hunting for?'

Two-Face paused and turned with the intent of rejecting Lillith's offer to hunt with him. After all, it was getting dark, as she had just pointed out. If he was hunting alone, than all he had to worry about was himself. If Lillith came, he'd have to worry about her too-- Cats were not the only thing that hunted at night. Some nocturnal creatures hunted cats at night! Nevertheless, he never got around to declining her offer, for her next question caught him off-guard. She certainly was observant to note that he must be hunting for someone.
For a moment, Two-Face debated on whether or not to tell Lillith about Nefertari. Lillith had proven herself to be a decent enough female; even somewhat tender of heart as he'd noticed, but did he truly trust her enough to reveal his adoptive kit to her? They'd only known each other for a few hours.
I promised my kit a lunch several hours ago. I'm sure she's hungry by now. he said at last, If you want to come along, I don't mind. Two hunters might catch something faster.

Lillith nodded at that, changing her route to come along with Two-Face. If it was for a kit then it was a good reason. "I'll do my best to help you out. Try not to worry about me too much, I can hold my own." She gave him a reassuring smile. She was a fairly decent hunter, while she didn't do it often, she could catch things for herself if she wanted. Even when prey was scarce at times like this there was always a mouse or two to be caught. Lilith would make sure the little kitten, whoever it was, wouldn't go hungry tonight. "Lead the way."

Two-Face continued across the yard, and eventually down the street. It was fortunate that they were in a neighborhood; not many wild cats came here to hunt, even though it was perfect when wild prey became scarce. Prey animals usually disappeared during harsh seasons because of lack of water or food sources, which meant they'd gone somewhere else in search of it. One creature whose territory never seemed to go without resources was the humans; so mice and other rodents were more than happy to move in with a slob or two. If Two-Face and Lillith could find a particularly messy garage, preferably with vulnerable food storage, they'd easily be able to locate some lunch for Neffy. Do any of these humans have cookouts? he asked, eyeing the houses as they passed them.

Lillith held her nose to the air. The night was clear, the dog had ceased it's spiel, the only sound to her ears was the buzzing of street lights. The only smell was Two-Face next to her and some garbage.
"All the time. It'd be strange to not see one.. Something you're looking for?' There were many places with meat and other foods just ripe for the taking. Coolers, refrigerators, trashcans. Humans around here would throw away perfectly good food. People who just left things out, so easily to be stolen. She herself never did that, but she knew as she walked by her strengths and weaknesses and what she could and could not open.

An open garage.. Or somewhere human food is left unattended and susceptible to rodents. Two-Face said honestly. He didn't see anything left ajar that he could squeeze into. With the sun setting, it was the perfect time for humans to come out and start firing up the grill, if they had plans to do so at all. It was a weekday, and Two-Face knew humans more often did cookouts on weekends.. Not that he wanted to bother with human fuss-- Because he knew a mouse wouldn't. Perhaps someone who had done a cookout recently and hadn't cleaned up properly. He had to find somewhere a mouse could find food and water, and feel safe.

Lillith heard his request and padded off. She knew of just the place. A little family who lived a few houses down who were notorious for leaving their garage open. It was set up like a little den. Nice and roomy, and with the kids there could always be food out. As she thought it was open. Bean bag chairs were nestled into one side of the garage, bikes and toys filled the other. There was a large deep freezer in the back and a wrapper on the ground of evidence that a child had gotten something and neglected to clean it up.
"Here."

Two-Face followed Lillith to the neglected garage. This place was ideal! A family with messy kids made for a mouse-filled happy land. Two-Face approached the opening and gave the interior layout a brief glance over. He had already spotted fifty place for a mouse to hide in one corner alone. Glancing at Lillith, he gave a nod of approval. This is good. he whispered and moved cautiously into the garage, hoping not to alert any overly skittish rodent to his presence. The food in the middle of the floor was the most obvious place for any mice to have been, but Two-Face knew that if there were mice in this garage, they were probably watching that pile until they felt it was safe to approach it. Therefore, he stayed away from it... That mess was to be his bait.
Keeping his head low and walking silently, he sniffed the near the edges of the walls, searching for the scent of a mouse. To his inner delight, he picked up more than one! Keeping his ears perked for any subtle squeaking or munching noises, he moved carefully along the walls toward the toys and storage that rodents may be hiding in.

The fiery she-cat smiled. She knew. This place was a breeding den for mice. It had everything they needed, easy food, shelter, and lack of predators.
Lillith followed Two-Face's lead. Watching the tom was he stalked and sniffed out the mice. Lillith chose to perch herself atop the deep freezer, keeping her ears peeled for any noise coming from a rodent. She could hear the faint scratching of a mouse, but she chose to stay put. She knew that if she stayed still it would give the little rodent a chance to get out into the open. creating an easy meal for herself. She looked briefly at Two-Face.

Once Two-Face felt sure of the location in which a mouse or two was hidden, he perched himself in a nearby corner and followed Lillith's example, becoming as still as the many lifeless toys that littered the garage. Though his body appeared to be resting on the floor, he was anything but relaxed. Under his furry tummy, his backlegs were on their toes, ready to spring forward at a seconds notice. His head was low, and his ears perked. The scuttling noises beneath the fridge were getting busier; the mice under there were growing impatient. Two-Face also detected some chewing noises over his head in a group pool toys, but paid it no mind. The mice on the floor would be an easier target. To have to chase a mouse through a box of toys would be too difficult; it'd give the mouse a chance to escape, and the noise would most assuredly alert the humans inside.
An hour, maybe two, passed in silence. The setting sun had long gone and the darkness of the night had enveloped the neighborhood before the first mouse dared stick it's twitchy nose out from it's hidden sanctuary. Two-Face noticed it, but still didn't move. Out came it's head, cautiously glancing about with it's tiny black eyes. It vanished. Then peaked out again. The food on the floor was too tempting.
Two-Face remained still.
Soon another nose was seen. Two-Face could detect at least four mice under the fridge. Joined by a comrade, the first mouse dared sneak out of the fridge, cautiously moving toward the food. Two-Face tensed, but continued to wait.
